The Greater Good Science Center proposes to build Greater Good in Education (GGIE), an online resource that distills the strategies and practices for the social, emotional, and character development of students and for the well-being of the adults who work with them, synthesizing the top insights and best practices from science, programs, and practitioners.
At the heart of GGIE is an interactive website that collects the very best research-based, developmentally and culturally-appropriate practices for Social, Emotional, and Character Development (SECD)—100 of them at initial launch.
GGIE’s target audience is preschool-to-university level educators, leaders, and school mental health professionals who work in an educational setting. In particular, this will be a resource for educators who have the will and need to adopt SECD practices and strategies, and are seeking a trustworthy, curated platform of research-backed resources.
A fundamental goal of GGIE is to create a resource that can be used and welcomed by the entire educational community in the U.S. Our planning process involved stakeholders from a variety of major SEL organizations. Our research suggests nothing like GGIE currently exists, and that the need for it is great.
