Character for Society advances a systematic approach to character education in the Czech Republic, inspired by leading initiatives such as the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues and the Oxford Character Project. It builds long-term capacity for a sustainable model connecting schools, universities, and the wider public, integrating education with culture, citizenship, and ethics. The project draws on the scholarship of Prof. Jan Hábl, the work of the Centre for Character Development (CERC), and collaboration with the Jubilee Centre and the European Charter and Virtues Association (ECVA). It responds to curriculum reforms and growing demand for values-based education, building on strong trust among key stakeholders and establishing a foundation for scalable impact.
During the project, we will strengthen and scale the Character Academy, a professional development program for university educators embedding virtue ethics into teacher preparation, culminating in Jubilee Centre certification. We will expand Schools of Character to dozens of schools, providing a practical framework for cultivating virtues and improving school culture. We will also strengthen public and policy engagement by building cross-sector alliances and promoting a shared language of character education. Finally, we will establish an interdisciplinary initiative linking technology, the arts, and the humanities to generate new resources and partnerships.
With an experienced team, strong momentum, and a proven foundation, Character for Society is well positioned to become a regional model—demonstrating how systematic character education strengthens learning, transforms school culture, and contributes to a more resilient society.
