Timothy Dalrymple became President and CEO of the John Templeton Foundation in July 2025.
At Stanford University, Princeton Theological Seminary, and Harvard University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Dalrymple’s career in academia centered on philosophy of religion. His doctoral dissertation, written under the direction of Sarah Coakley, examined the Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard’s writings on the suffering self and the search for truth.
Starting in 2008, Dalrymple helped launch an online platform for discussion on life’s most important questions. As the venture grew into one of the world’s largest, he left academia to focus on it full-time. In 2013, he founded a creative agency that he would lead as CEO through significant growth for six years, serving hundreds of clients across a wide variety of fields. Selling the business in 2019, he became CEO of a legacy global media organization and led its expansion into new media and new markets.
At the John Templeton Foundation, Dalrymple stewards the strategic vision and organizational health of one of the largest private foundations in the United States. “We are a funding agency and a storytelling agency for world-changing ideas and discoveries,” he says. “I love that we can represent the capacious curiosity of our Founder and support some of the most innovative, boundary-pushing, awe-inspiring projects in the world.”
