This project will explore issues pertaining to humankind’s central psycho-spiritual and religious concerns, such as the nature of revelation, the Revealer and the revealed, which, in the Muslim context, are the domain of a long-since abandoned speculative theological tradition, one which this project aims to resurrect. To this end, a workshop will be convened, with invited scholars brainstorming ideas for a multi-authored volume on the central questions of the project. Authors will then work on their chapters, each of which will also appear in multi-media form in order to generate discussion. There is a dearth of material addressing those existential concerns which impact on the lives of Muslims, affecting both the individual and society as a whole. This project, by reviving the forgotten tradition of Muslim speculative theology, is an attempt to address such concerns. By the end of the project we aim to have convened a workshop and a seminar, published a multi-authored volume, convened book launches in three different countries; and produced a multi-media series – videos, podcasts and kinetic typography – highlighting the project’s central themes. Through the provision of material which aims to respond theologically to the existential concerns of Muslims, the impact will be the raised awareness of the existence of an authentic tradition of Muslim speculative theology.
