Philosophy of Religion in the Classical Islamic Intellectual Traditions: Problems, Texts and Contexts

This project concerns selection, translation and introduction of readings concerning topics in philosophy of religion and the organization of a conference focusing on major discussions found in the selected readings. By taking topics of discussions in the subject of philosophy of religion, we are first going to identify the relevant pieces produced by medieval Muslim philosophers, theologians and Sufis. After the process of identification is completed, we are going to translate those texts into the Turkish language. Since the anthology is meant to be used in modern academic courses, we are going to write introductions to parts of the volumes and specifically to each chapter. This anthology will be finalized in five volumes and will also be provided in the English language. We are going to organize a conference, after we make the anthology prepared for publication—with the texts translated from Arabic and with introductions to each chapters and parts—in Turkish. The conference will be an international conference featuring scholars who are experts in medieval Islamic thought and who can relate their studies to the discussions found in contemporary philosophy of religion.
