The aim of the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues’ phase 4 project, Celebration Britain (CB), is to synthesise, augment and celebrate the achievements of the earlier 3 phases of the Jubilee Centre’s JTF funded work. The outline plan in phase four will span six key areas of work, namely: major analysis of existing data sets to extend our empirical evidence base; large scale strategic dissemination of the Centre’s work; major initiatives in the policy domain; new research designed to address gaps identified through previous phases; increased conferences and public events, including a new international strategy; and a final conference dedicated to celebrating the progress that has been made over the last decade through the work of the Centre and the generous support of JTF.
The analysis of our extensive data sets will extend our empirical evidence base and seek to address ‘what works’ and ‘why’ in the field of character development; this work will involve a realignment of our previous research findings under the umbrella of the concept of human flourishing (individual, institutional and societal). The strategic dissemination of the Centre’s work planned for this phase will extend beyond the dissemination efforts adopted in previous phases; it will take advantage partnerships with professions, charities, as well as greater outreach to schools and colleges, and will look to new innovative methods to disseminate key findings and reach new audiences.
This phase four proposal is comprised of six projects; although these proposed projects approach the issue of character and character development from diverse directions (research-focussed, practice-led, engagement-and-policy driven), the overall aims revolve around the same aspiration – motivated by Sir John Templeton’s original intent – that the Jubilee Centre create positive change in UK society by developing better individuals and better institutions.
