Over past decades, international human rights protections have expanded dramatically. The international community has increasingly focused on the human rights of specific groups, and on social and economic rights to be realized by positive state actions. New international human rights mechanisms often serve ideologies and have nothing to do with protecting basic freedoms. International human rights courts have bent the meaning of human rights, and intruded unnecessarily on democratic processes. The goal of the Freedom Rights Project is to help human rights meet the central challenge of protecting liberty by bringing them home to their roots in Classical Liberalism. The program of the Freedom Rights Project includes research, the publication of articles and books, stimulating debate among practitioners and academics, and public advocacy. Through these channels, the Project will strengthen critical thinking about the current direction of human rights; inspire policies that will reduce the politicization and dilution of human rights; and, it is hoped, make human rights mechanisms more effective for all who seek freedom and democracy.
