Vladimir Bužek, Ph.D.

Vice President, Mathematical and Physical Sciences

 Vladimir Bužek is responsible for developing new research initiatives and fostering new fields of inquiry in the disciplines of physics, astronomy, mathematics, and related sciences. Prior to joining the Foundation, Prof. Dr. Bužek was Head of the Research Center for Quantum Information at the Slovak Academy of Sciences. He was also a visiting professor at a number of academic institutions and has served on various national and international advisory, scientific, and editorial boards.

Prof. Dr. Bužek received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Moscow State University. He is the author and co-author of more than 200 research papers and 15 chapters in monographs and books, which have been cited more than 7,000 times. Prof. Dr. Bužek was awarded a number of awards and prizes including the Ernst Abbe Medal and the International Commission for Optics Prize, the Humboldt Research Award (Germany), and the E.T.S. Walton Award (Ireland). He is also the president of the Learned Society of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, a foreign corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, a fellow of the Institute of Physics (UK), and the Optical Society of America (USA). His research interests are focused on quantum optics and quantum information sciences.
