Hyung S. Choi, Ph.D.

Director, Mathematical and Physical Sciences

Hyung Choi is responsible for creating and managing research initiatives that engage foundational questions in the mathematical and physical sciences. He previously served as director for research and programs in the natural sciences at the Metanexus Institute and as director of the Canyon Institute for Advanced Studies, an interdisciplinary research organization in Phoenix. He was a visiting fellow at St. Edmund’s College, Cambridge University, and professor of mathematical physics and philosophy of science at Grand Canyon University.

Choi received his M.Phil. and Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and his M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary. Before moving to the United States in 1979, he studied physics at Kyung-Hee University and theoretical particle physics at Seoul National University in South Korea.
