Stephen Post, President, Institute for Research on Unlimited Love
Stephen G. Post is requesting a small grant in the amount of up to $36,000 to support the promotion of his new book, THE HIDDEN GIFTS OF HELPING: HOW THE POWER OF GIVING, COMPASSION, AND HOPE CAN GET US THROUGH HARD TIMES (Jossey-Bass, February 2011). This book follows the publication of "WHY GOOD THINGS HAPPEN TO GOOD PEOPLE," which sold an estimated 60000 copies, and was briefly on several best seller lists in 2007. The Hidden Gifts weaves together a narrative from the author's life with the science, spirituality, and story of the benefits of self-giving love and faith in a God of Unlimited Love. It includes a chapter on Sir John Templeton's vision of Unlimited Love as Ultimate Reality, and on the Institute for Research on Unlimited Love. THE HIDDEN GIFTS OF HELPING will become the philanthropic mainstay in the author's plan to re-focus activities on the Institute. Endorsements for the book are many, including Christians and Buddhists. The Rev. Dr. Walter J. Smith, S.J., Ph.D., President & CEO, HealthCare Chaplaincy: "In an elegant and thoughtful reflection on his family's move from their settled life in Ohio to their new home in New York, Stephen Post uncovers "hidden gifts" among life-changing challenges. As one of America's most knowledgeable philosophers and scholars of the interrelated roles of altruism, love and compassion in spiritual and physical wellness, Dr. Post brings years of scientific inquiry into critical dialogue with his own family crisis of transition, change and adaptation." From the Buddhist and neurosciencist, Matthieu Ricard:"In this inspiring book, Stephen Post convincingly shows how helping others leads to win-win situations: not only does benevolence enhance other's well-being (its primary goal) but, as a bonus, it also contributes significantly to our own physical and mental well-being."
