Description

Young people today face many problems especially in making the right choices. Writing a Laws of Life Essay creates an opportunity to make an affirmation in which to live by. Writing is often used to release feelings or began a healing process for some students. Each year we receive heartfelt essays about choices they wished they had made and by stating a -Law of Life- they now have a guide/goal. Some students use their Laws of Life Essay as their college entrance essay while others use this opportunity to tell their personal story. Reading these essays gives CCMS a view of how our young people are making decisions; whether the decisions are right or wrong. The expected outcomes are gaining the knowledge of how teenage students are using the character development lessons that they have been receiving through our school based program, Winners Walk Tall in addition to the support they receive at home and other activities. CCMS is research-based by the Maryland State Department of Education in 2007. Our program is described as -effective in terms of both behavior and academic outcomes-. The enduring impact is simply confirming that the students grasp the knowledge and importance of using good character traits so they may become responsible, productive citizens in our communities.
