OFAC Compliance Information
To comply with laws passed by the U.S. Congress, Executive Orders issued by the U.S. President, and guidelines issued by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) in the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the John Templeton Foundation has established procedures for making disbursements to both U.S.-based organizations and foreign organizations to safeguard against providing any support for terrorist activities. These procedures include cross checking names of grantees and their officers, directors, and key employees against official terrorism watch lists. The Foundation requires all grant applicants and grantees to cooperate fully with these procedures and provide all necessary information.
In order to facilitate the Foundations ability to comply with the above referenced OFAC guidelines, please provide a list of Board Members or Trustees and Key Staff.
The list of Board Members or Trustees should include the following:
- The full legal name of the person
- Their title/role as Board Member or Trustee when applicable
- Their professional affiliation
For example: John M. Templeton, Jr. M.D. President of the Board of Trustees of the John Templeton Foundation, President of the John Templeton Foundation.
If your organization has a separate group serving as a Board of Advisors, it is not necessary to provide this information for them.
The list of Key Staff should include the full legal name and title of all staff who will be involved in the oversight and direct administration of the grant. This would include:
- The top paid position of the organization (President, Executive Director, etc.)
- The name(s) of the Principal Investigator or the name(s) of Co-Principal Investigators if applicable

The name(s) of the Program Director or Program Coordinator
For example: Jane L. Doe, President and Jane M. Smith, Project Manager
Tax Compliance Information:
- If you are submitting a proposal from a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) organization or a foreign organization with a U.S. Tax Equivalency, please provide your nine-digit Employer Identification Number or Tax Identification Number. This number is usually in the following format xx-xxxxxxx.
- If you are submitting a proposal from a U.S.-based college or university, please submit a letter, on your institutions letterhead, stating the legal name of the organization and your nine-digit Tax Identification Number. This letter must be signed by an officer of your institution.
- If you are submitting a proposal from a foreign organization without a U.S. Tax Equivalency or from a for-profit entity, you do not need to provide any information at this time.
