Budget
Budget
Please provide a detailed project budget and a budget justification narrative that explain each line item expense. Please also include additional sources of funding for the proposed project or your plan to secure complementary funding.
- Overhead: Your budget should indicate what percentage of the total budget will go to overhead. The Foundation provides overhead up to 20% of the overall grant amount. However, the Foundation welcomes proposals that request a lower percentage for overhead costs. We often find proposals with a lower percentage for overhead costs to be a more cost effective investment. The Foundation does not provide overhead on prizes and other sub-grants that may be included in a funded program or sub-contract.
- Travel and Lodging for project related research can be fully underwritten by the Foundation. The Foundation may also fully underwrite travel and lodging costs associated with strategically disseminating the findings of the proposed project to other researchers and opinion leaders. However, the Foundation will only support up to 10% of travel and lodging costs for a conference organized by the Principal Investigator, even if the purpose of the conference is to disseminate the findings of the research or project. Regardless of the purpose, the Foundation does not pay for First Class airfare for any travel.
The Foundation recognizes that organizations may secure complementary funding from other funding sources (to cover travel and lodging expenses) that will allow the organization to convene a conference. Beyond the potential 10% travel and lodging costs that the Foundation may contribute, please ensure that your proposal includes information explaining where additional funding will come from to underwrite the travel and lodging costs for a proposed conference. Care and attention on this component can result in a quicker decision.
Budget Format
We ask that you submit your budget in a line-item format. Should your proposal receive funding, this format will be used to report on the financial aspects of your grant.
