The Martin E.P. Seligman Award for Outstanding Dissertation Research in Positive Psychology

The Seligman competition will award a cash grant of $1,000 to a scholar who has completed a Ph.D. dissertation in any area of research related to Positive Psychology in the last three years and who plans to continue research in this area. The dissertation must have been completed after May 30, 2005.

Award Presentation: Winner will be compensated for one night's lodging, meals, and travel to the presentation---date and location to be announced.

Interested candidates should submit six copies of both their curriculum vitae and summary of their dissertation research (not to exceed eight single-spaced pages, including tables and figures, but excluding references).

The summary should contain:
  • A description of the problem investigated
  • An explanation of the methods used to investigate the problem
  • A summary of the findings
  • A discussion of the significance of the findings in relation to Positive Psychology
  • An outline of how the work might be continued in the future

Materials must be postmarked no later than May 30, 2008.

A selection committee will determine three finalists by July 1, 2008. Finalists will then submit a copy of their completed dissertations for review. Materials should be sent to:
