The Power of Purpose Awards
is designed to encourage thought and discussion about purpose.
It is impossible to define "purpose" in a simple
sentence, as purpose is both complex and personal. We are
particularly interested in essays that address personal
reflections, journalist report and scientific inquiry, as
well as essays which are purely fiction. Please click on
each of the four themes suggested below for further information
and to get a sense about how we interpret these categories.
Prizes will be awarded based on quality
only, not by category or theme. Some overlap among categories
is acceptable, but you should select the one that fits your
work best.
It is our hope that these suggested themes
will help you focus on what you want to say and give you a
framework for organizing your essay. Winners will be selected
based on originality of ideas, clarity, persuasiveness of
writing, and accessibility of content to a general audience.
Professional writers are encouraged to
enter, but entries will be accepted from men and women in
any occupation, as well as from students and retirees.
