This three-year grant is to conduct a series of investigations concerning the relation between prayer and the physical body. In the first study, emphasis is placed on how the body is positioned during various prayer acts. The second study seeks to discern any unique qualities associated with bodily movement (walking) during prayer. In a final study, relations between prayer and the body as a vehicle for sight and sound receive attention.

The University of Notre Dame Press projects a 2007 publication date for the results of the research in a book titled Contemplative Practice in University Life: Developing Meaning, Resilience, and Multifaith Community through Spiritual and Psychological Growth – Student Narratives from a Project in Developmental Education.
