The Two Moralities: The Debate on Alleged Moral Decline or Progress

This grant supported a project to elevate and refine the debate about alleged moral decline or progress. Twelve academics and writers researched twelve sets of virtues – six traditional and six modern. Their work is collected in the edited volume Decadence: The Passing of Personal Virtue and Its Replacement by Political and Psychological Slogans, published by Social Affairs Unit in 2005. The book and its conclusions have been broadly disseminated.

initiative established a Templeton Research Fellowship program to encourage
established and emerging scholars to pursue research aimed at improving
academic integrity within campus communities. Via presentations at research
institutions and conferences, the Templeton Fellows are disseminating new
knowledge on the gap between ethical beliefs and behaviors. Their research
is being prepared for publication in a special 2007 edition of Ethics and
Behavior.

Britain. The goal of the initiative is to release a set of research publications
